I have two sons and each has served in the military. My ancestor fought in the Revolutionary War when he was 16, another in the Civil War when he was in his 20's. My father was in his early 20's when he served during WW!!. This song reminds me of all the young men, of this world, who have given their lives in the past and are still giving them today. As a mother, I mourn. Not just the loss of so much potential, but for loss of a beloved child who can never be replaced and for their parents grieving hearts.
Thanks a lot for the beautiful pictures and beautiful song, (and beautiful English translation as well.) I could not help crying. My deepest sympathy and respect for "Kamikaze" pilots who sacrificed themselves for their beloved country. They died honorable deaths which will be remembered for generations by Japanese worthy of the name.

You and I are cherry blossoms of the same season
Blooming in the garden of same military school
All blossoms must fall
Let us fall beautifully in the service of our country.

You and I are cherry blossoms of the same season
Blooming in the garden of same military school
Although we are not of the same flesh and blood
Somehow our spirits are the same; I wish we could remain together always.

You and I are cherry blossoms of the same season
Blooming in the garden of the same flight school
I look up into sunset in the southern sky
The squadron leader’s plane has still not returned.

You and I are cherry blossoms of the same season
Even if our blossoms fall far apart
We will meet again when we bloom in the treetops
